TeamViewer Unveils Cloud-Based Backup Solution

eamViewer, a remote control and online meeting software provider, yesterday unveiled a new cloud-based backup solution – airbackup. With airbackup, managed service providers (MSPs) can protect customer data in the cloud, without an on-premise backup infrastructure.

TeamViewer created airbackup with security and privacy in mind. The solution features 256 bit AES encryption with a private key. All airbackup data is locally encrypted before data transfers so that only MSPs can access it.

In addition, airbackup supports the following data types:

Files and foldersNetwork sharesSystem statesMySQL databasesMicrosoft Exchange ServersMicrosoft SQL Servers

TeamViewer General Manager Holger Felgner said in a press release that he believes airbackup can help MSPs set up business continuity and disaster recovery strategies and reduce their IT expenses.

“airbackup users can benefit from the typical cloud advantages while performing targeted backups which do not interfere with their daily operations,” Felgner said.

TeamViewer’s BackupBoost technology compresses data and identifies duplicate data blocks that do not need to be backed up. airbackup recognizes the data that has been modified since the last backup so that only the altered data blocks will be transferred, which speeds up data transfers to TeamViewer’s external data center.

airbackup is one of several RMM solutions TeamViewer has launched recently. Last September, TeamViewer released ITbrain, a remote monitoring and asset management solution that gives IT administrators access to their data from any web-enabled device.

“ITbrain gives small and mid-sized businesses the ability to understand how their IT assets are affected, so they can move from a reactive to a proactive approach,” Kornelius Brunner, TeamViewer’s Head of Product Management, said in a press release. “With a complete view of IT assets in a company deployment, IT administrators can remotely track, secure and manage important devices within a company. Disturbances within IT can be minimized, and the uptime of IT assets can be maximized to secure revenue, profitability and asset life.”
