Hewlett-Packard Co. announced today that it will expand its printing products and services to help large law firm and corporate customers simplify and solidify security policies to improve network protection and maintain the confidentiality of information.
The new security portfolio comes under a new brand, HP JetAdvantage, which represents HP’s document and workflow printing products. JetAdvantage delivers secure products for mobile printing, print management and security, as well as Flow (a workflow product). All are designed to help streamline crucial business processes and tasks aimed at improving employee productivity and reducing cost, the company said.
With increasing concerns about cybersecurity, a secure print environment is quickly becoming an important concept in the legal community. Law firms and corporations invest in network, server and desktop security, but “why aren’t they doing the same for network printers?” asked HP’s Ed Wingate, vice president of LaserJet & Enterprise Solutions in an interview with Law Technology News. Organizations, he said, find their fleet of printers and the plethora of security settings hard to manage.
The new portfolio of security products includes existing security tools (such as HP ArcSight Management Center and HP’s Access Control) and new offerings:
Imaging and Printing Security Center 2.1: simplifies security deployments and monitoring of HP printers.
Print Security Advisory Services: analyzes print environments for optimal security policies and recommends best practices in a secure printing infrastructure.
Secure Content Managing & Monitoring: monitors and alerts administrators when sensitive content identified by key words are printed or scanned.
JetAdvantage Pull Print: secure, cloud-based print workflow.
JetAdvantage Pull Print will be available in multiple HP LaserJet and Officejet products. Pull Print prevents unauthorized access to confidential print jobs. Print output is encrypted on desktops and tablet computers and transferred to the cloud where it rests in 256-bit encryption until it is claimed by the user from a supported printer.
HP also announced the forthcoming release of its HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M630 series, which supports its new HP Trusted Platform Module accessory. It will allow HP ArcSight to collect, analyze and correlate print device log events and identify risks to the printer on HP ArcSight’s dashboard. The new MFP series has more than 200 embedded security features and document workflows for security compliance.
Here is the release schedule of the new products:
Trusted Platform Module Accessory: Nov. 1.
Imaging & Printing Security Center 2.1: Nov. 1.
JetAdvantage Pull Print: Nov. 5.
ArcSight Printer Integration: Nov. 7.
LaserJet Flow MFP M630: Fall 2014.
Secure Content Management & Monitoring: Feb. 2015.
